Everyone has a happy place. Mine is home improvement stores. <gives me the warm fuzzies just thinking about it>

Auggie’s is the library. When we ask him if he wants to go bye-bye, he yells “Yes! Audric go to library!” Asked him what he wants to be when he grows up… “A library.” His sister wanted to be a football when she was that age, so I’ve learned to just go with it.

We live near the library and pass it all the time. He lets us know every time we pass it and don’t stop. He lets us know LOUDLY. During the summer, however, it’s a location for the summer lunch program. We get out of the house, the kids get lunch, we get books, fun all around. We live at the library during the summer normally.  This year we have slacked because Lina needed some downtime after the recital.

Today we ended our library drought. All the kids signed up for the summer reading program. Doing that granted us some fine forgiveness, which we needed because Michael forgot that he had a book in his room and I don’t remember him ever checking it out. There’s no telling how much he owed because I didn’t ask.

I needed to check out a book for our summer “un-school”. I mentioned a few days ago that Lina and Michael asked to learn more about the Cold War. I felt that ‘Fahrenheit 451’ would be appropriate. The irony that it wasn’t available. Our library has 1 copy and it was checked out.

1 copy. My high school library had 5 copies of that book and they were the type to try to ban Harry Potter.

I was highly annoyed and drove us to the nearest Half Priced Books. The whole time we discussed banned/challenged books and censorship. I couldn’t have planned an introduction to this unit any better than what God gave us. The kids were intrigued and I mentally added more books to our unit study.

It took a while, but we found it and ‘Animal Farm’, ‘Grapes of Wrath’, and ‘The Catcher in the Rye’. Couldn’t find ‘1984’. Looked all over the place for it. We eventually had to ask a worker for help and they said that we were the second person that day to ask about that book. They didn’t have any copies.

But Amazon did.

And it was sale.

And hubby got an employee discount.
