Both my husband and I fancy ourselves, writers. He is really great about pumping out the words. Not so great at making them grammatically correct or even spelling them all correctly. I’m not perfect either. In fact, I subscribe to my favorite high school English teacher’s philosophy of grading papers: No one deserves an ‘A’. English is hard and we all make mistakes. Some of us make more than others. Lol.

And so I am proofreading hubby’s manuscript.

I’ve been proofreading it for a year now. He gave it to me at 145,000 words and it is just too many. His pacing is off and I’m not even half way through it yet and he is looking for publishers.

On the plus side, he found a publisher that is taking submissions in his genre.

On the negative side, they are only accepting submissions that are 20,000-40,000 words. So I copied his file and am ripping it apart in a new document. I have to trim it down by 105,000 words while keeping the story line and making his character more likable and relatable.

WTF did I get myself into?
